what careers can you go into from doing a photography degree?

November 28th, 2010 by admin

After you have finished with a degree what are the different lines of careers can you go into?

My first job was as an assistant to a studio photographer.

My next job was working for a publishing company as a PR photographer

Later, I worked as a medical media photographer for a large hospital

I traveled to Africa and was the managing director for a photo lab there

When I returned to the States, I worked for a large industrial corporation shooting various processes and even forensic photography of failed machine components.

Now I am an editorial photographer, shooting for magazines, newspapers and websites, a fashion photographer for some local designers and sports photographer shooting football, basketball, baseball and NCAA sports as well as fast cars and motorcycles.

As you can see, there are a huge number of options.

Your first chore is to put all your education to work, honing your skills in real life scenarios.

It has been said that until you have 5,000 hours of shooting under your belt, you will still be in your "advanced training" mode. This can take from two to five years depending upon how many hours a day and how many days a year you work as a photographer

Film vs. digital in studio photography?

November 22nd, 2010 by admin

Are there any differences, in terms of lighting equipments needed in studio environment for shooing digital and shooting film?

No differences.

ISO settings are the same, lighting is the same and all techniques are the same.

The only differences you will find is you do NOT have to use colour correction filters that you used when shooting film. Digital cameras can be set for different lighting situations or corrected when processing RAW files.

There is something that you will find helpful when setting white balance. This is the Xrite Colorchecker Passport.

Here is how that works.

Where is the best place online to buy digital studio backgrounds?

November 11th, 2010 by admin

I am looking to set up a chroma-key (green screen) option for my photography, and we do not have any options for local shopping for studio equipment and supplies so I tend to order things online. Looking over Amazon’s selection I was a little disappointed.
Let me clairfy. I am not looking for the actual green or chromakey screen, I am looking for the digital files that are used to replace the green screen.

High School Classes Required for Photography Major?

November 6th, 2010 by admin

I’m a junior in high school who is planning on majoring in photography in college. I’m particularity interested in concert photography. Is there any sub-category of photography I should consider minoring in for concert photography? Also, what high school academic courses (which maths, sciences, etc…) are required for this major? What elective classes? I plan on taking Digital Photography and possibly AP Studio Art next year. Any other help/advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Just take the same classes you need to enter any college. Your advisor can hook you up.

My emphasis was on math/science and it was good enough to get me into Brooks.

Any classes you take will be beneficial as you enter the field and start working as a photographer.
