Where can I get an Associates in Digital Photography?
August 7th, 2010 by admin
I live in the Elgin, IL area and really want to break into photography and start my own business. Im looking for a program to learn digital photography at a school no online but the only thing I can find is a Bachelors which is 3-4 years or noncredit classes which are pointless… Anyone know of anywhere or have any ideas other than Harrington College of Design???
The College of Dupage in Glen Ellyn has an excellent photography department. One of the instructors lives in Elgin, so the drive can’t be too bad.

Some community colleges give AS or AA degrees in photography. Within the curriculum both traditional and digital classes are taught.
My guess is that it will be a long time before a specific degree in "digital photography" will be granted.
There are degrees in digital media which includes all forms of digital art, photography, video and sound recording as well as those mediums processing .

There are lots of books available that can teach you the mechanics of photography. I am not sure that anyone or anything can teach you to be an artist. The difference between a photographer that just takes pictures and one that produces artistic pictures is the difference between someone that earns some money in photography and someone that earns a real living in photography. Go to the library, get some books on photography and learn the mechanics. Then learn how to SEE the art side of it. JH Hand
