Careers in photography?
what are careers in photography and how long is the schooling it requires, majors in college etc.?
also, not that it matters much, but does it pay well?
Wedding Photography is one of them. I’ve had several friends go into this business as a self-created business. During the Spring/Summer/Fall are the busiest months. My friends majors include several things: Bachelor’s degree in Photography, Bachelor’s degree in Art. Also from these degrees I’ve seen some friends become Graphic Designers for website companies etc. You could always have a major such as Marketing or Communication and minor in photography. Maybe major in photgraphy and minor in business that way u can have knowledge in the business aspect but also do what u love which is photography! Its best to put a portfolio together through the years so when its time to get a job you will have samples to show.

There aren’t really careers in photography, per se. It’s more independent. You can either work for a magazine, newspaper, etc. or open your own gallery (or both). It doesn’t require school because it’s a talent (like dancing or acting), but if you want to improve your photography skills, then go to school. Major in communications (photography, photojournalism, visual arts- whatever your college offers).
The pay varies. You’re basically self-employed (freelancer) if you don’t work for a company.

It’s a UK site not an American one but it should at least give you a few ideas about what type of photography you might want to follow.
